Taken from Nizar's latest album Furat (Euphrates), the piece (al-)Dalya (grape leaf in Arabic) owes its title to the historical name of the Syrian city al-Quriyah, and which is located on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. In ancient Mesopotamia, al-Dalya was a resting point for caravans traveling between the cities of Palmyra and Mari. The city is also known as the ‘green city’ for its fertile agricultural plains, especially grape leaves.
