Organizational Background

Building Bridges was founded in 1994, just months after the Israeli-Palestinian Oslo peace accords were signed. Our flagship program, Building Bridges MUES (formerly known as Building Bridges for Peace), was launched with the goal of creating a safe space for young Israeli, Palestinian, and American women to meet together with those they have learnt to fear. Together, our participants grow to develop personal connections and acquire necessary leadership and communication skills that enable them to engage in meaningful dialogue, learn about different perspectives, and share their own.

Additionally, Building Bridges has led programming in other conflict areas, including Northern Ireland and South Africa, as well as ongoing work with diverse young people from the United States, all using methodology developed by the organization.

In 2013, Building Bridges Jerusalem was established as a separate legal entity to allow ongoing local programming and support for our participants, alumni, and larger Palestinian and Israeli community. To date, over 2,000 young people have directly participated in Building Bridges programs, creating immeasurable impacts in both their private and public lives.
